New Look

We celebrated and watched Autumn’s turning yesterday at Undersong Perfumery. The rowdy resident Governor Island crested terns have left until October, and a cool southerly ripped through The Gulch, banishing the brightest morning sky.

A new seasonal banner, the stunning, almost animated ‘Pandanus’ by Tasmanian artist Lorraine Biggs - now signals when the perfumery is open. Part of her series on Botanica, Lorraine boldly interprets one of Tasmania’s endemic botanicals ‘Richea pandanifolia’ - a giant grass tree of Gondwanan origin that grows up to 12 m high with metre long leaves. Surviving only in alpine areas and the rainforests of the Southwest, Tasmania has become a refuge for species of the Gondwanan era.

‘Gondwana’ by Undersong is inspired by the aromatic leaves of celery top pine, leatherwood, sassafras + mountain pepper, gathered from a private rainforest and steam distilled, blended and bottled at Undersong Perfumery to create a uniquely Tasmanian fine fragrance, ‘Gondwana’ Eau de Parfum. Available for purchase online or direct from Undersong Perfumery, Bicheno, open Thurs - Sat, 10:30 - 3:00. Also available exclusively from Saffire Freycinet and Design Tasmania, Launceston.

New works by Lorraine Biggs open in Still (life) along with Thornton Walker and John Gibson at Kelli Lundberg Art on the Mornington Peninsula, 10 April - 18 May 2025
